Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | I was wondering what the group thinks about Ovations having the black headstock face? I really like the wood overlay on the headstocks of older Ovations, but the black does look good on my Legend LX. Does anyone know why Ovation went to a black headstock look? Was it to cut cost on using wood as an overlay? I guess I like them both, but I am leaning toward the wood face on the headstocks. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I have an '02 CL 12 string with the black plastic overlay. I like the look, but I guess for the price I paid I might have preferred an ebony overlay.Sometimes the purist in me likes the snob appeal of real wood, and sometimes I feel like a teenage girl shopping for a car..." I like the shiny black one!". |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The original ovations had black or very dark faces to the headstocks. So, I see this as a return to our roots and frankly I like the look. Dave |

I think the black gives it a "elegant" look combined with the gold string post of the Legend.

Location: SoCal | Mike, my gut tells me that Ovation wouldn't be using plastic there. I would guess that it's ebony but I guess that only Ovation could tell us for certain. Especially after going thru the factory tour, I just don't think that the company is going cheap with their material. I also recall seeing necks in the raw form with black wood on the headstock. Check some of the pics that people took. |

Someone here (Witko??) mentioned in a thread that the headstock overlay is some type of "fibre" material??? . . .or did I dream that? . . |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Depends on your definition of "plastic". My guess is that it is a thin piece of something like "formica" that's glossed over. Anyway, I think it looks really nice, whatever it is. Dave |

Location: Ct./ USA | It is Obeechee. It is a wood veeneer. It is popular on new gutiars these days and not just for Ovation. You know the gold logo on a black background/odenchea logo looks clean and crisp. (my spelling might be off)IT IS NOT PLASTIC!!!! |
