Actually, I thought this was handled very well in a bipartisan way. Although, in fairness, we should have included Kerry's kids - well, glad we didn't. |

I LOVE political "discussions" with other less fortunate (less fortunate because they don't agree with me.) I can use my double-bass voice to outshout some of the best.
HOWEVER, in all seriousness, talking about music may not be as important to us in the long run but it is so much more fun.
Let's see, which of the President/former President/candidate's daughters could be compared to the Acadamy, Applause, Celeb, Balladeer and others? |

I Do. One of the functions of a good songwiter/musician/artist/performer, whether politicaly motivated or not, is as a chronicler of the times & situations in which they live, and this function has produced some of the most important & potent music of the last century. Personally I'd rather hear someone with passion, like Steve Earle or Mellancamp whether I aggree with them politically or not (though I do) than say The Carpenters or some fuckin' pussy like John Denver, or any of the countless other white-bread liberals, hipocrits, fence-sitters or record company whores out there. If music doesn't have an element of danger, or at least some genuine heartfelt conviction, then it's usually not worth listening to. Saw a Joan Baez concert on TV recently, I could just about stomach the politics but could't stomach the 3rd rate playing, singing & songwriting, |

Let me start by saying I agree that you have to be aware of whats going on around you. and yes some songwriters do chronicle the times very well. I truly believe That there's also room for moving ones heart.John Denver did some pretty good Love Songs. They're good Acoustic Guitar Tunes. He's not the only one. Jim Croce and James Taylor are some others. I don't worry About The politics of Songwriting as much as does the song truly tell a story or reach to your heart. Not all the Beatle Songs were Social Commentaries of the time some wer just fun Songs and some moved the heart.
In Other Words, Variety Is The Spice Of Life.
Not trying to turn Sappy on anyone, Just trying to say that Some Like variety. |

I don't think political statements are necessary or essential in music, but equally I don't dismiss it or shy away from it. If political comment was left solely to politicians or the media we'd all be screwed. |

You have the Jim Croce dvd? It has him performing a number of his tunes as well as adding commentary on how they were written.
As a side note, he and his side man were playing Martins but went to Ovations. Made a big difference in his sound (for the better). |

Maybe W-2 can correct me on this, but Lennon wasn't seen with an Ovation until he was recording the Starting Over collection in 1980. Gimme Some Truth was done for the Imagine album.
I've posted this before, but just for the 1500 or so that have joing the club since then, here it is again:

Kinky Friedman, now your talking. What songs are on that CD? A great LP I was fortunate to be exposed to years ago is "Sold American"
"And everything’s been sold american,
The lonely night is mourning for the death it never dies.
Everyone’s been sold american
Don’t let me catch you laughing when the jukebox cries."
Kinky Friedman
And of course the classics "The Ballad of Charles Joseph Whitman" and " They Don't Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore"
:) :) |

Go out there with arms outstreched and show them you love them, so they can forget years of killing infidels (us) and realize that love has been there all the time and they just overlooked it because they were too busy torturing and raping stupid women and children who were married and born to "stinky assholes" that is people who won't crawl behind the teachers of world correcctness and suck their ass or die. |
