Location: Warren,Pa. | My wife and I are going to Maine in June. We'll be getting on a 100' 1920's fishing boat that's been turned into an eco-tourist floating b&b. 6 days of whale watching, gourmet meals, R&R. Only 12 people on the trip, and the captain says musical instruments always welcome! Sounds like a great place for an Ovation to go, but we're talking out on the ocean in the salt air for 6 days. My wife says I should bring my Takamine G-230(my campfire guitar),and I know that makes sense. But this sounds like a most inspiring trip and that is a most uninspiring guitar. I would love to stupidly take my '97 Collectors, just right for an intimate setting like this. SOMEBODY STOP ME! John. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Hmmm lets me see. Take an all WOOD guitar out in the Ocean air, or take the most popular guitar seen on the Beaches of Waikiki that only has some wood, and is built like a tank and sounds great.
Just make sure you bring a clean cloth that you keep in a baggy and a little sprayer of Dunlop 65. Ovation is the one I guitar I would bring on a boat. If you have an Adamas, even better. |

Ovation is the beach jammin guitar and has been from the 70's. San Diego's beach parties were orchestrated by round back earth movers that could be buried in the sand, shook off, put back in the case and appear again at sundown, ready for the party. |

Seriously, I would be concerned about the electronics. The '97 Collectors' package sounds a little idiosyncratic anyway and salt air isn't going to help it any.

Location: Wooster, Ohio | One of the reasons I bought my Collectors 97 was to take on vacations and weekends because it is smaller and is more intimate. I took it on a church elders retreat and it was perfect in that small intimate setting. As with most Ovations they are tuff, and will hold up to being taken around. I think that guitars are to be played not inherited by my kids. Also the 97 case will protect it well.

Agreed!!
John, congrats on this trip. My parents took us to Maine (Mount Desert Is., Acadia National Park, etc.) many times for summer vacations back in the day... That is truly God's Country. I have been wishing to do a sailing trip just like the one you are doing. I'm trying not to get TOO jealous :) Where do you sail from?? Hope you have beautiful weather!
On one of our trips, I took along my brand new 1612 Balladeer on a 3-day "sleep on the boat" trip, played it at night on the boat, and 20 years later it is still in perfect working condition. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | JohnnyMac, check out wanderbirdcruises.com . We set sail just south of Acadia and go as far as conditions permit..perhaps Newfoundland the Captain said. We've never done this sort of thing before. Been to Acadia every other year for quite some time, but always felt that any vacation over $2000 was self-indulgent. Is this a sign of aging??? I kind of feel like my wife and I are crossing a threshold here. Anyway, think I'll take the '97 Collectors with me. John <>{ |
