Location: Tucson, Arizona | Recently during a visit to one of my local guitar shops (GC, in fact), I came across a used Adams guitar hanging on the wall. They’re asking either $699 or $799 for it (sorry, I don’t specifically remember). I was looking for one of the LX series.
I’ve seen that the Adamas is the top of the line in the Ovation world.
Here’s my question: Is the Adamas substantially better than the LX series that’s due out soon?
I know it’s an individual thing, the guitar player, the guitar player’s preference, etc. But if this is a screaming deal, I don’t want to just let it go by without having played the guitar.
Once again, your posts would be appreciated!
Thanks. |

I was out this last weekend and made it into Ted Brown in Tacoma. I own an Elite Lx and I got to play an Adamas 6 string and a 1996 Collector 6 while there.
All three are excellent with greatlooks, action and tone. The 96 sounded very similar to the LX - but it has a deep bowl. The Adamas was lovely and had that red sheen under dark gloss.
The 96 was on sale for $1900 - although Stringinstrument tells me it was at $1200 when it went on the wall a year ago. The Adamas was $1100 and the Elite LX is available for about $1050.
All three have a different voice and will provide an agonizing choice! |

Location: Upper Left USA | The model number escapes me Paul. It was one of the newer styles with the glossy top and a red sheen to it. Mid bowl and cutaway. |

I "love" the XLR hook up the Adamas has. The used guitar like anything "used" can have had a bad / hard life. But... I'm thinking that if $1,500 to $1,800 was spent on the Adamas when new...
A kid didn't buy it and take it to camp.
The feel of the Adamas should push you over. Age and past repairs "could" have me waiting for the LX.
That does sound like a very good price...

Now that the Ginka-Baloba is kicking in I remember the Adamas to be on sale at $1400.
Welcome to the gaseous world of indecisions! |

Paul,
Unfortunately I don't know. I didn't get any of the spec's when I was in the store, but I'm planning on going back, getting all of the details, and sitting down and playing it. I'll let you all know what I find out!
Thanks All!! :) |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Paul, if the Adamas is in good shape, and it plays to your taste, I would grab it, forget about the LX, and don't look back. I've only played one bad Adamas ever, the round-hole one that Elderly had till lately, and that one wasn't even that bad.

Location: Florida | That red sheeny finish sounds like the current Adamas SMT (like I have). Its a nearly black finish until the light hits its - then its deep red shiney highlights.
More than pleased with mine - not only does it play well, the tone is pretty smooth. |

Location: south east Michigan | I spent a couple hours with BrianT today. I played his Adamas CVT that he bought used a few weeks ago. It has got me thinking.
I guess I got no answers for you but at least you know someone else is in the same boat.
