Interesting, the seller had replaced the tuner buttons from the "ebony" about a year ago...one just cracked in his hand about a year ago. Replaced with pealoid Schaller buttons. He is going to send me the 5 good originals. If I can find a single ebony, fine (or may like the pearloid.) If not, if anyone else has a broken one and needs a replacement, let me know. |

Either way, I know I would probably have to buy the set of six...have the ebony on my FD-14 also. Not sure if anyone else had the problem with breaking - maybe they need one replacement. Or, maybe this is the one problem out of 1,168 (935 of the narrow, 233 of the wide.) |

Hey Woz, I see one every day, but it isn't going anywhere anytime soon!
This whole '97 Collector thing is really interesting to me. Probably sets the standard for how far a Collector edition guitar can depreciate. A great idea, but just not the right product at the right time for the right audience. But for those of us in the KNOW, this is one freakin' cool guitar. And thankfully the low prices have allowed many OFC members to own them. It's kind of like Ovations best kept secret. In my opinion this '97 is what a Collectors Series should be. It was unique and daring. Hope Ovation goes similar routes in the future Collectors. How about a bigger bodied D sized guitar? a double neck 6/12 Viper? a GP re-issue? the possibilities are endless. |

Location: Converse, Texas | I agree with standingovation. IMHO, the Collector's series should be unique guitars -- som,ething out of the norm that won't be seen again -- like the 97 Collector's. Heck, maybe even a Custom Longneck or something. Or an Adamas with a centerhole... :D |

I suggest light bodied ANS neck Adamas IA's replete with carved slotheads and bridges. Bring this down into the Elites with a lot of Abologne! |

- #6591, which is an SMT
- #W591, which is a CVT
I haven't checked to see if they are still made, but I don't think they went over very well. |

A sailor is on the dock at the navy base and his ship is about to depart for Iraq. He's panic stricken because he just can't bring himself to go into war. He can't decide what to do when just then he sees a nun and ge gets an idea. He goes over to the nun and says "Sister, Sister, do think I could hind under your dress until my ship has departed. I REALLY don't want to go to Iraq". The nun say "Why, yes of course my child, hide up under there and everything will be OK". So the sailor hides under her dress until the ship has left. Then he comes out and says "Oh, thank you, thank you Sister. I really didn't want to go to Iraq. And might I add that while I was under there I couldn't help but notice what a beautiful pair of legs you have." Then the Sister says, "Well, if you looked a little higher you would have seen a beautiful pair of balls, because I don't want to go to Iraq either". |

Location: SoCal | Dave's is right...from what I understand, the '97 was misunderstood and under appreciated when it came out. It still is. It is a great guitar for the appropriate player. A smaller FD-14 which is the highest compliment I can give. First time I picked it up, I wasn't my usual "all thumbs" - I was really bad. I got the narrow neck and it took a couple of minutes to get used to it. "Appropriate player" - unique electronics and smaller guitar. Heck, it is a parlor. My wife is 5' 1" and she LOVES it. She was trying to learn with a shallow bowl Balladeer - the 1997 allows proper position and the narrower neck is more appropriate for her smaller hands. As to value, try finding a high quality parlor for under $2,000. They staff at Ovation did a wonderful job. Suzie is even thinking about not sending it back for an "ear job" as she has told me she will never sell it. Since the headstock is oiled walnut, you don't notice it unless you hold it next to another O with an undamaged headstock. |

I was wondering what you would think of the 97, since I can tell you are a very experience player and collector. Your experienced confirmation shows that the 97 is special. What is interesting is that the narrow neck is the standard neck width on a typical ovation yet it feels narrower.

Guess my impression was based on the playing position (size of body.) Length of fretboard isn't the reason, my 1658 is also a 12-fret but a deep bowl.
Or, maybe it is the fact that Suzie won't let me play HER guitar. ;) |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Tony, as far as high quality parlor guitars under $2000, try Larrivee.....I just got a new P-09 flame maple gloss parlor for under ONE thousand!!! And it's very high quality. They make them at their new plant in California.
This is a new model that was introduced at NAMM in January, the old matte finish parlors were discontinued, although you can still find a few. There's a ad with the rosewood P-09 in the current Acoustic Guitar mag.

I had checked with a couple of companies such as Paragon - by the time I listed what I wanted, about $2,200 msrp.
For the value, $450 for the Ovation was a STEAL. Seller adjusted the original purchase price due to the bobbed wings on headset. |

Location: Wooster, Ohio | The Larivee probably didn't come with electronics. The 97 Collectors is just an absolute steal for its performance characteristics. You just have to strum one chord and you know. Mine was $550 and is one I am not giving up. Also the best case and fit to a case I have ever seen.

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Nope, I don't believe electronics are even an option on the Larrivee. Doesn't matter to me, I don't gig, and it wouldn't be my gig guitar if I did. I have five roundbacks and I was looking for a smaller, all-wood guitar this time out.
If you want a REALLY nice parlor guitar and got bucks, I tried a Tippin parlor at a small shop near me....$3400(!!!)....with NO electronics. Sounded and played just wonderful, though. Heirloom quality build and sound.

Location: Zion, Illinois | I got real lucky buying my Haida Gwaii (now know as Paragon) parlor guitar off of EBay for under $1000. Check my photo gallery, its the guitar between my blue topped Adamas and my black topped Elite 12-string. A real beauty of a guitar.
EBay also had some nice Mahogony or Maple Haida Gwaii's last year go for around $1200. A great price for a quality hand made guitar.
