Location: Yucaipa, California | My wife and I are going to an outdoor graduation tonight and we needed to buy two Stadium Blankets for the event so, thinking fast, I volunteered to buy them. It so happens that the J.C.Penny Store is right next to the local Sam Ash store :D
I just happened to stop by on my way back to the car... results:

1 Elite "T" pewter with a really fat neck and dead strings.
I asked "Do you have any of the new LX Ovations?"
"Nah, you gotta order them"
"What about Adamas?"
"Don't carry Adamas"
"buhbye"

Location: Converse, Texas | The new Sam Ash store here in San Antonio did have a few of the LX's when they first opened. They still have the Elite LX. Al sells them for less though.

Location: Florida | I went to SamAsh in Sarasota FL to try comparing shallow and medium bowls. Handful of Celebrity Deluxes, and way up the wall, a lone Melissa Adamas.
I asked about other Adamas 12s, the acoustic dude said that for that kind of money I ought to buy a Taylor. No matter that I wanted a smaller body, longer neck, cutaway top 12 string and all they have are jumbo sized non-cutaways.
Just guessing here, could be a "commission" spliff for each Taylor sold, I have overheard them hyped to other customers at that store. :rolleyes: | |

Location: Scotland | I was in the Sam Ash store in Manhattan in March & not only did they have a good selection of USA & offshore models one salesman was extremely enthusiastic about their Ovation inventory & told me how great the Adamas & 30th CL were & that I should check out the LX models. I guess the deal is if you pay peanuts you get monkeys, but occasionally one of the monkeys turns out to be Nesmith, if you get my drift. Conversley, just a couple of doors down 48th street at Rudy's I had the misfortune to meet the worst guitar store salesman I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. OK it was 10:30am on a cold wet Manhattan
monday in March, but this guy had the worst attitude and was so plain ill-informed, surly, rude & ignorant he should have been working for Guitar Centre. I should have rammed his donut which appeared to be more important than his customers, right up his fat saggy ass. | |

Location: Tampa, Florida | I went in my local Sam Ash and they had a 30th Ann. That was all. They did have the same 3 celebritys and the 3 yr old Legend with a op24+ on it for $1k. bought some gold grovers and gold straplocks for my std elite lx, some elixirs and was happy to be going home. the 30th was nice, but how much nicer than a legend (really) all of the abalone/carving not worth $700-$800 to me. | |

Location: Central Oregon | I went to Bend Wednesday & I stopped at Central Oregon Music (small, . I was going to get a set of Elixirs but they were out of the light gauge.
I played a half dozen guitars while I was there. They had another Elite LX in. He had a different one last time I was there. Steven plugged it into a Crate acoustic amp. It sounded damn good, especially the bass. Played well too, although as usual I'd like the action a little lower. I played three or four Martins as well. Nice enough guitars, but overpriced, imo.
I played an all-mahogany satin finish slot head 12 fret dreadnaught ($900). It sounded good, but not as good as my 1612. I played a D28 cedar top ($1500) that was nice, but nothing special. I played another one that I think was a D35 (?)(not positive on that) ($2,400). It was Indian rosewood, spruce top. It was nice too, but again, nothing special.
All these guitars were acoustic only. They all had one other thing in common- they were about as comfortable to hold in my lap as a fruit crate. They are thick & they are square & they dig into my ribs. My roundbacks have me completely spoiled. I rarely even play my ES175 any more. As nice as it is, if I play it for several hours sitting down it will actually bruise my ribs enough that I can feel it the next day. The Epi Riv is fine cuz it's so thin.
Steven told me he'd had a Martin guy there a few weeks ago with three fancy Martins. He showed me big close up brochure pix. 24 carrot gold inlays covering the headstock & so damned many inlays everywhere they just look like one big blob of paisley. The cheap one was $100,000.00. The REALLY gaudy one was $165,000.00. The other one was somewhere in between. (Yes I know how many zeros I put in there.) I jokingly asked Steven if they had checked his insurance policy before they brought those guitars over. He said as a matter of fact they did.
The LX was the best looking guitar in the room. Since I was playing it plugged in I can't really compare the sound to the Martins.
The prices on the "show boats" just blew me away. I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in central Oregon a guy can buy a comfortable house, a new Hummer to park in the garage & a half dozen damned nice Ovations for 165 grand!
