Congrats to Standingovation Dave as he looks to be the new owner of a 67-68 Balladeer with much character!

What's it have to do with me? I'll splain Lucy.

I saw about 5-6 days ago and thought "how cool". Got out my Ovation History Book and looked up when the rosette changed. Hit the internet and scoured for any info I could. It was a fascinating research project. I inquired of MoodyPI who said it would go between $300-$500 - right on. I had asked the Seller some questions and got no response. Being a relative Newbie I set a $$ value in my mind of $180 knowing the best thing to do would be to send it directly to Kim Keller and see the prognosis. Got up this morning and saw it at $220 and was both relieved and disapointed. Now I see it is going where it can be appreciated and cared for.

Very nice little piece of history. Hope you don't mind my bringing it up. For me it was a learning project and if one pops up again I will be better able to appreciate and maybe obtain it. I am sure that there are many other "worthy projects" out there as well.

Nice flavor of early Ice Cream!

I agree. Where would you be able to see so many of the Ovation guitars and be able to ask the seller questions?

I think Dave cast a spell...I got up this morning to check on my bid..."imminent failure" warning for my hard drive. Took 45min for the computer to go through its diagnostics, every thing checked out but by the time I could log on - it had closed. That's okay, a good OFC member got it.

And, would have sent direct to Kim for TLC (they're doing that for an Adamas I - had seller send directly to Kim.)

As an aside, I wouldn't have known that Dave or another OFC'er was planning to bid since Dave came in at the last. I have no problem with an OFC'er contacting me if it is his or her "need" and it is just my "want" or like to have. IMHO, this is not unethical as we are not affecting the end price.

I would tend to agree with Tony. If you see that a regular OFC guy is the high bidder, nothing wrong with contacting him and see how serious he is. As long as it doesn't end up in price manipulation, which is strictly forbidden. BTW Tony, you weren't the high bidder so I didn't feel the least bit guilty about sniping this one. Or maybe my magic spell worked on your PC?

Anyway, this Balldeer is the same as one I already own and I won't be keeping both of them. So look for one to go up for sale in the near future . So why did I get this second one (my wife will also be asking that same question). My first one is Ex+ condition. It's in too good condition to justify making any investment to being it to Mint status. I know this second one needs work. So maybe it's worth it to invest in making it mint and then selling my original Ex+ one. Strange logic, I know.

When you get it up to speed - post your price. I have seen how you appreciate your instruments and its good to see it in a good place. My real focus needs to stay on a 12 string for now - maybe when this one is ready I'll be ready for it too.

Part of my lesson is to identify which "jewels" I want to be ready forwhen they pop up.
