Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Good afternoon to all my O buddies who are looking ahead to the holidays and wondering what on earth to get that very special SWMBO.
Two of my girlfriends and I went to tea at a tea room yesterday; check on-line for a tea room in your area, and for about $50 you can treat your sweetie and one of her girlfriends to "high tea." (Other areas of the country may be less expensive than the east coast--YMMV.)
Just think of it: White lace tableclothes, fine china tea cups with those ridiculously small handles, delicate little sandwiches that would leave any manly man nearly half-starved--and you won't even have to go (unless you really want to......) :D
She will greatly appreciate your sensitive generosity, and I won't even ask you for a finder's fee. ;)
Just looking at this through feminine eyes, I would have been thrilled to find a gift certificate for something like this in my stocking.

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Great idea! When my bride and her sisters formally get together, it's usually at a tea room. They always have a grand time.
Now, where's that local natural juice bar...? ;) |

All you need to do is drive up to Victoria BC and surprise your bride with high tea at the Queen Victoria Hotel. |

| But being American do any of these places actually know how to make tea? |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Great idea! The chamber group I used to play with did gigs in a tea room. One time, the people were on a train tour through the northeast, and stopped at all the tea rooms on the way. The food was great, the tea was great, and then they did a fashion show using old dresses and hats from the 1800's. Not something you guys would enjoy, I'm sure, but a great gift for your wives. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | We've done (taken?) high tea at the Empress Hotel in Victoria B.C. and numerous places in Great Britain, plus numerous not-so-high teas in the afternoon at strangers' houses along the road. SWMBO loved it. As Karen suggests, however, a 1" triangular cucumber sandwich has little or no effect in diminishing a typical man's appetite at 4:00 p.m. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Karen, I tried Googling yesterday. Of the three, only the one in nearby Meridian sounded like a traditional tea room and I'm going to look into that. We have a significant Chinese heritage here, going back to the railroad and mining days, so people tend to think of tea rooms in that context. |
