Well all,
My 1777LX came today from Oklahoma Vintage Guitar and it is going back. Around the sound hole, by the inlays there are a bunch of "bare spots" where you can see bare wood, it is sapposed to be black. Bobby B said he will exchange it and give me a $45 strap to make it up to me. But I am leaving for vacation Saturday, so I am going to wait to send it back. What a bummer. Outside of this, it is awesome. Anybody seen this before? I haven't. I took some pictures of it, but don't know how to post them.

Was wondering if they drop shipped that guitar to you or sent it from OK.

They were the folks I got my "last one available" Tacoma mandolin from, and it turns out they drop shipped it from the factory in WA, and put the "last one avaiable" ad back on ebay.

My mando is fine, and the price was great, but the practice was perhaps a bit deceptive.

That is troubling. It concerns me that maybe the MotherShip is going a little TOO fast in getting out LXs.....but these things do happen in any manufacturing process.

Sorry Bill...
It sounds more like a factory problem but I sure can't say from here. Is this the one that was listed at a very low price? If so it reminds me of the old "If a deal is to good to be true..." saying. I hope the return goes smooth but most of all I hope you get the Ovation you want.

Bill I'm sorry to hear you had a problem, especially in light of the fact that I gave Oklahoma Vintage such high reviews.

It may have been a problem Bobby wasn't aware of and it looks like he's going to make it right.

Hoepfully it will all turn out ok.

That's exactly why when I buy another guitar (notice I said when :D ) I'll buy from Al. He truly checks out the guitar before he sends it and if he says it's ok , then it is! If the guitar has any issues he will let you know before you take the plunge.

Al has been the brunt of many a "gag" from "we who Ovation", myself included  but I truly feel that you will not find a better person to deal with!

I had emailed Al, but he didn't have it in stock, and he was $50 more, so I went with Oklahoma. This has happened before with other dealers, and they all claim to check them out first. It is the price of doing mail order. I don't have a problem with Oklahoma, they are making it right. It is just disappointing when you wait to get it then there is a problem and you have to wait all over again.

It was sent from Oklahoma, so he had it at the store. He said it was the last one, but since I got mine, he has gotten in another one.

Bill, sorry about your Legend LX. Mine came from Al and it is perfect. I had emailed him and he told me he looked it over and played it and it was perfect. The rosette is beautiful on the Legend LX. When you get one with no flaws you will love the guitar!

Welcome to the board RobT! To learn about Al, go back to the WELCOME page. Read it...then go to his sight. He's a cool guy, though frequently misunderstood. Again...welcome and have fun here! John <>{

Bill,

Amazing, that is the first time that I know where Al was higher in price.

When I got a 30th Anniv Custom Legend from him, he posted a picture in HIS gallery and I was worried he'd play it so much that either I'd never get it or I would have to replace the strings. ;)

All I can tell anyone is I am a repeat customer.

I believe Al made an oblique reference to OVG a few months back about them selling below what he could sell for.

All I can say is that IMHO one should never buy strictly on price alone, one should buy from a store/individual that you trust to stand behind the purchase.

I agree...just surprised as the 30th CL Anniv and the 1777 LX were lower through Al. In fact, Oklahoma Vintage had the first ad on eBay (Jan 3) for the CL Anniv...caused a few posts here.

I don't expect to make every sale. there are tons of great vendors out there.
I don't always have the best price either but I try. Ovation is a tough market to compete in sometimes.

I agree. But if I was going to go to anybody else, I couldn't have gone with the Legend. I would have had to go with a Balladeer. My limit was even less than the price I got it for. I just stretched it to even do his low price. Maybe I should have just done that. Oh well.

All I know is that I got my 177LX Legend, and it has been my dream come true.....I couldn't sleep until I heard the UPS truck. Hope things turn out alright.

I wanted the transparent burgandy. But the cheaper price was only on the black. He says he got a good deal on those. I think they aren't as popular.

Only one color for the Legend LX...natural! It never goes out of style, and gets better looking with age. I wish I would get better looking with age. Oh well, my guitar sure is beautiful. :p :p :p :p :p

For me, it's worth it to pay a little more up front to someone who you know/trust/respect than to pay a little less to the Mega Dealers. I know that when I buy from Al (I'm still saving for that Adamas, Al) my purchases are important to him. With some of the Megas, my purchases can be offset by pilferage and at the end of the day don't really matter to them, but to Al, a guitar sale can help him over the top for that day.

The satisfaction of knowing that my purchase is important and has been personally inspected by someone who knows what he is doing is well worth the little extra price.

Support our small (well, maybe not so small  ) business man and you will both be happy!
