For those of us contemplating a refret job, is this worth considering? Probably the cost, versus nickel, is equivalent, given most of the job is labor, anyway. Any thoughts?

Stainless fret wire has been used in the past...with some limited success.

From what I hear, with the right tools, its not any harder to put in - you have to get the radius preset of cousre, glued as well as hammered. I'm sure they're harder to polish, but if you fretboard has been prepared well and its true, then you ought not have to do much polishing at all - since if you seat the frets fully and they dont lift... you ought to be real close and need little final dressing.
