| On acousticguitar.com someone just posted something about why more Ovations aren't mentioned more on that site. I predict a landslide of comments about twangy sound, tinty sound, bowls falling off laps, etc.. |

Can't do much about the first two, and Ovation has been working on the third. I'm encouraged. |

Ovation is clearly making strides in improving sound quality. And they are constantly working on new ideas and designs. Most of the Members here Love their O's!! I love Mine. I found that after reading the Topic While the posts are not Really bashing..some of them come close. With the exception of some of the OFC members trying to shed some light on the topic. |

| Cliff, all of the extreme negatives are posted by people for whom today is their first day on that board. My guess is all the comments are from the same person. Happens on message boards of all types (political, legal, video game boards, etc..) all the time. |

I registered, entered a polite OFC type post, and got flamed instantly. I deleted my post and backed out quietly.
I really like this board.
I really dis-like that board.

That place is not usually that fiery. (I'm Alka Seltzer over there, a dig on Seagull guitars, get it?) That one troll jerk "realguitars" or whatever (then he made himself "ovation-lover" and was like "I love my 1990 celebrity") was the problem. Stupid people who suck at playing guitar, so instead of practicing they spend all of their time on the internet talking about playing guitar....umm, I gotta go practice.
I love my Ovation and will play anyone in the ground if they have a problem with it, even Steve Vai or Mr Miagi or something.... |

Sounds like most of the people over there are college professors.
I, for one, am glad that Clifford hangs out on our board --- DUDE! |

Location: nyc area | I just read the AC thread...as someone who is "out there in the trenches" playing live and performing chop shops in music stores and guitar workshops and festivals I am constantly asked "what do you really play?"....I always reply "i play ovation because no other guitar feels as good, or allows me to change tunings as easily ar takes string guage changes as well... In short, I can only do what I do on ovations..."
the good folks at ovation are passionate and dedicated to reaching new heights of acoustic excellence...im honored to be a part of the family there and here... there will always be ignorance and strong opinions, just as there will always be racism and injustice in this world... play on my brothers and sisters... spread light ...not stupidity...we have enough battles out there... just my 2cents... |

as usual you are a voice of reason.
joining in postive discussion is fine. When it degenerates into a pissing match it is just not worth it.
I read the whole thread before it was edited. Someone was kind enough to send it to me.
For some of our long time members I am surprised you did not pick up on some of the clues. One of the posters made sure to single me out as a corporate shill (we have heard that before haven't we?)
another poster describes his guitar sound as a "cannon" (I think some of you know where I am going)
I would only ask that you respect other boards like you respect ours. Acoustic guitar mag is a good mag hey they even published me !!!
have a good day. |

Same mastery (or lack thereof) of the English language, and same M.O. that we've seen used before (here). It's sad that someone that smart who does such good and meaningful work has to resort to such childish tactics.
. . . . I guess ya' just have to wish him well and move on . . .

I came in after that whole deal, so I don't really know the full deal. Probably best not to go there. |

I don't agree with the methods, especially if he is attention seeking. I will stay out of it and play this beautiful Custom Legend 12 string I just pulled out of a box via UPS from New Jersey!
I'm going away for a little while, excuse me. Better things to do you know! :D |

I like this board...because altho I have been playing the guitar for 45 years and have owned ovations since 69/70,(also own martins/guild/gretsch/fender) I still feel humbled by what I don't know...when I listen to most of the folks on this board. Everytime I have asked a guitar question, I've received help and good advice. Thanks to Jeff/PM/PT/SC/TC/GD and all of the rest I missed. I appreciate being part of the board. |

| Slap, I have to disagree with you. Generally speaking, the other board is not all that negative. I've learned a lot about guitars and tonewoods there. Also, many have offered some good advice in the playing guitar section as well on that board. There are usually a few strong negatives about Ovation which is why I stated that initial post. I've also heard people state strong negatives on Martin, Taylor, and Gibson there ( it can get a bit confrontational if you take it too seriously), but that board has quite a few people who spend incredible amounts on equipment. So guitars in the Ovation price range can get the short shrift anyway. People do not have to like Ovations in order to have a valid point of view. Also, several first rate luthiers inhabit that board and offer interesting points of view as builders, instead of just players. Many good people on that board just as there are here. |
