Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | I was looking through sites related to Larry Coryell (trying to find Adamas connections for St. Al)and I came across a site on Coryell and the late jazz guitarist Emily Remler. There was a picture of her playing an Ovation. Anyone familiar with her music? |

Location: Huntington Beach, CA | She wrote and played rather interesting stuff and achieved a certain cult status, in part because of the manner of her death. Haven't heard anything ofher for some years until your post. |

Location: Las Cruces, NM | Just did a Google search and got over 1100 hits, top ones linked her with Coryell and suggested she died from heroin abuse. Seems she was an excellent jazz guitar player, I may follow some of the leads.

Location: Ontario, Canada | Emily Remler is the sole reason why I picked up the guitar again after years of not playing (marriage, house, job et al....). I have every one of her cd's. I have read that her influences include Pat Martino, Herb Ellis and Wes Montgomery. She was a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. All of her CD's were released on the Concord Jazz label, except her very last CD, which was on Justice Records (1990). I love her music and wish she was still around to write and record. She was well respected in the jazz community and a "tribute" record was released after her death with many well respected jazz musicians contributing. |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | Bobalu, where are you in Ontario? I'm from Ottawa. I saw Herb Ellis at the Chateau Laurier, a very small venue, years ago. At the time I was playing an Aria Herb Ellis model arch-top, and I lugged it to the show and had Herb autograph it. He also played it a bit, and pronounced it a good guitar (not too surprising, it being a Herb Ellis model!). We chatted a bit between sets. A real treat, talking guitar with a master. I'd have to say Emily Remler had good taste in influences. |

I'm in St. Catharines. Do you still have your Aria Herb Ellis? Wow. A guitar signed AND played by Herb Ellis. That's an amazing story.
My wife's dad is from Cobden, and her mother is from Manotick. (hope I spelled those correctly). Just can't get away from that Ottawa Valley! |

I sold the Aria years ago (can't remember why, exactly - probably to buy some other musical gear). I've ordered an Adamas W597-BZ from Steve's music in Ottawa. My current inventory is: Ovation Elite model 1718, two Marc Beneteau acoustics (one a 12-string), a Hagstrom Super Swede solid-body electric, an old Gibson SG-style electric bass, and a Framus arch-top with a very small body that sounds like a cross between a guitar and a banjo. Marc Beneteau is a Canadian guitar maker who used to live in Ottawa but now works out of St. Thomas, Ontario (unless he's moved again). |
