| Was wondering where I could get a rough appraisal and more info on my guitar.
Of what I've gathered off the website, it's a model 1561 in the tobbacco sunburst color, xlnt condition. I've figured:
1=ovation
5=elect cutaway
6=deep body (although it appears shallow)
1=Balladeer
Color=Tobbacco Sunburst
Tuning pegs=Kluson
Date=Sept 1967
I'm guessing this is a Model#1?
Original Black Ovation hard shell case
The main thing I need is a rough appraisal. It's in xlnt condition. I live near the Seattle, Wa. area if that is helpful and can offer more info and pics if desired. If you could please help me or refer me it would be greatly appreciated.
That I sent to Ovation and they referred me here and left me this note:
This 1561 is a Balladeer super shallow cutaway built in 1984 it sold for 720.00
plus case back then. We are not up on used pricing so you might want to check
around maybe the Ovatioin fan club site could help they buy and sell used stuff
all the time.
I need a current appraisal so I can sell this guitar. My Parkinsons has gotten to the point where I can no longer play anymore, and need specialized bracing for my tremors, yet I don't want to give it away for a "song and dance," (excuse the pun).
Any answers or advice would be greatly appreciated. Geez, you know how long it takes to type while spasming? Wish voice recognition worked better.
BTW, I'm sure I purchased this prior to 1984.

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | I did a quick search on Ebay for completed items and came up with this.

It's not ecactly like yours but close. It really depends on who wants what and when as compared to when you have it posted. One of the reasons som many of us are "into" Ovations is that you can get a really nice guitar for not so much money. Doesn't really help you as a seller. Good luck and let us know when you have it posted or perhaps give the board a shot at it before you send it to Ebay.
Anybody else? | |

| Thanks so much Willard (or Bill). I've been watching ebay but didn't think to check older listings. Its very similar to mine except color. Will take some pics and post here first. Do you think $450 is a reasonable place to start? | |

| The 1561 is a Standard Balladeer produced only in 1984, and was among the first super shallow bowl cutaway electric guitars offered by Ovation. There may be some serial numbers of this model that correspond to 1985, but it would be impossible for the existence of a pre-1984 model.
The 1561 was deleted from the line in 1985, and it appears that there was no direct replacement model, although the 1861 comes closest in terms of price and characteristics, as after 1985 the 1800 series guitars generally denote a super shallow bowl cutaway electric.
The current market price of this guitar would be difficult to determine, as there are relatively few models in existence to use as a point of reference. However, as this is the entry level USA model Balladeer, comparable in features to the current 1861, the value would realistically be in the $250.00 to $400.00 range, based upon condition, and assuming a buyer were seeking this particular model.
