I had a set of 12 Walnut tuner buttons left from the sale of the 1688-5 earlier this year (the Jenny/Amelia guitar)which I had bought from Temp...
This evening while playing the 47 RI I had an idea to change out it's buttons: perfect fit!
Here is the new look:

I love it! If you want to class up your O/A, get some Rothesay Music Replacement Buttons: Rothesay Music

Thanks Paul!

I got some Walnut buttons on my OFC Ding-O that match the headstock perfectly. So then I got a set of the rosewood ones from Rothesay ... and they look killer and match the headstock veneer perfectly on my Lakewood jumbo.

Paul, anything ever come of the idea to produce some of the carved ones in walnut for the slotheads?

I've got a set as well. I plan to see how they look on my 1537-1. They should set off the walnut fretboard just fine!

My grained Ivoroid buttons are made from the same material as the Waverleys in Dave's pic. They're available in mini and full size for Schaller, Gotoh and some Ping models. The minis look great on slotheads, I have them on my Custom Folklore and 1773LX.

My latest production is underway and I will have rosewood in both sizes back in stock, as well as ebony, walnut, ivoroid, tortoisehell and koa.

Bobbo, I've had one sample of the carved buttons which looked pretty good but wasn't quite right. Hopefully Mk2 will be correct and I can then get an idea of how much they'll cost. It took over 5 months to get the first sample, so don't hold your breath

The Ivoroids also go well with the grained binding used by Hamer and installed on my VXT custom.

". . a little wax to match the headstock . ."

GoodIdea . . . I'll have t'do that as well . . .

There's a distinct difference between the buttons and a 30+ year-old walnut neck/headstock.

A light coat of lacquer can help. Get a small spray can of gloss or satin lacquer from a hobby store. The type used on plastic model kits.

Whoa, that's a dramatic difference and excellent match!

What would ya'll recommend for a 1680, minis or full? Paul mentioned the minis on slotheads...

I think minis look better on slotheads, especially the later tapered shape. On a 1680 you could go with walnut to match the epaulets, or ebony to go with the overall look

I was referring to the headstock shape being tapered, as opposed to the usual wider version on earlier Ovation 6 string slotheads. But yes, I have walnut minis. Mike has a set available too which might save you a little on shipping

It's cool watching you guys dress up your guitars. I'm thinking that for my guitars, if I take some lessons, maybe people will stop throwing tomatoes and the guitars will look better.

Cliff, you're trying to keep 32 year old gold tuner buttons from getting worn and pitted???? If they're not by now......

Yep, works great. Very cool. Body secretions will have the same effect eventually (Cliff, I'm talking finger oils here)

Too Late.
I've sped-up the whole process by taking the buttons back off the guitar & stashing them adjacent to my coin purse . . .

. . four and a half more weeks, and they'll have developed a nice, greasy "patina" . . .
