I thought I was happy with my Takamine guitar, but I've now found myself in love with the M.O.B. and I think the only way to get over it is to buy one.
I was just wondering what people's feeling are on this guitar and the tangent range.
It appears to be around £450 - £500 pounds here in the UK, but we are always being ripped off by inflated prices. Not sure what the current pound/dollar exchange rate is, but how much do you guys have to pay for one in the USA ? Does anyone know if it would be cost effective to import one ?

If this guitar makes you like Ovations then it's great. I think the real name of it is My Other aBortion, hence the MOB. But what do I know, I'm just an old retired gas station owner.
Of course I liked the Thunderbolt which probably had the same reaction from some Ovationites as this Bortion gitter. |

I am glad you like your MOB. Enjoy it and play till your fingers hurt. There is another reason I'm glad for you. Just wait till play some other Ovations. If you are this happy on the ground floor, wait till you see the penthouse.

Location: Upper Left USA | If you put the same holes on a Bearclaw Spruce AAA solid top and didn't cover it in blue paint, gave it a deep bowl and some abalone trim I'd have one! The whole Tangent line is set on thin loud trebley (sp) lead guitars for kids.
The Elite T, however showed some ingenious sound designs.
It's the beach scene, surfer dude thing that turns me off.
It's as easy to poke fun at as a a banjo.
But these are just opinions. Buy yourself an LX and I'll send you a reversable exotic wood truss rod cover as a bonus gift!

Location: Central Oregon | Welcome Diamondo. Sorry, I know nothing about MOB prices. I like blue but that's where my interest in MOBS ends. Like Brad said, if you like the MOB you're going to be completely blown away when you play an LX or any USA made Ovation. Which, btw, I would do if I was you before you plunk down the bucks on a MOB.

Location: Wales, UK | Thanks for all your replies - I thought that there might be a few strong opinions out there on this guitar, so that's why I put the post in.
Well, I tracked down a MOB today and I've finally had a test drive of one - and I have to report that I've now fallen out of love with them. It wasn't so much the sound that put me off - it was the feel of it. I didn't like the feel of the neck - sort of cheap looking and not comfortable to play.
I also played a pinalce and a celebrity, and out of all three I like the celebrity the most, which was surprising as this was the cheapest one by far.
But then I got to play an Elite - sort of all mat black finish with the sound holes just on one side. This was in a different league from the others - felt really nice in my hands. But the price was well over a grand !
I suppose I've learned that if I'm going to buy an ovation then it's gotta be an expensive one ! |

And yeah, your going to spend more. But remember, nobody offers more bang for the buck than Ovation.

Location: Central Oregon | You might try watching ebay for an American made Ovation (ANY American made Ovation) for sale in the UK. That would probably be your least expensive option. No duty to pay, less shipping cost, etc.

Location: Scotland | I have a couple of MOBs, a couple of Elite-T's & some used high-end models available at exceptional prices for the UK though it's always worth investigating importing a guitar from the US. Watch out for the VAT, duty & shipping as they can really screw-up what may appear to be a bargain.
For what it's worth, I've been on tour for the last 3 weeks & I've been using a MOB for slide. I'm a typical USA-only guitar snob, but the MOB is working out great. What's more the women in the audience just love it. We did a live radio show yesterday & the DJ spent the first part of the interveiw asking me about the MOB. I managed to avoid using the phrase "cheap Korean junk" and claimed that I only brought it because it matched my shirt, then I remembered we were on Radio. |

Sounds like you're the man to see for ovations. Could you mail me some of your prices please.
Where are you based - do you have a store near South Wales ? Although I'm not in love anymore, I could still see myself parting with some cash if it was a good price.
All the MOB's I've seen advertised and the one I played have been shallow bowels. Do you use the middle sized one or do you know if the tone / volume is better on them ?

Location: Scotland | Dave, I'm using a supershallow and as much as I hate to admit it, it sounds better unplugged than my '72 deepbowl Legend. As far as I'm aware the mid-bowl MOBs are not available via the UK distributor. I've sent you a private message, you do not have your personal email link activated. |
