RELATING TO YOUR GUITAR/MUSICAL EXPERIENCES,

If you could go back and do one thing different in your past, what would it be?

I'll start it off with my answer ...

I wish I could have taken classical guitar lessons to start off.

That one's easy. I wish that instead of replacing the bridge on my old Gibson when it cracked, I had just put a tailpiece on it. Then the tone would have IMPROVED, instead of being compromised, and I would still have it.

I would never have sold my '69 D-28 in 2002...
Even though as things turned out my '48 is awesome...But the '69 was such a part of "me" for so long...

Popped a certain guitarist in the nose. Forty eight times, at least.

Then gone home and played guitar, not put it in the closet for 20 years.

...one isn't anywhere near enough to make a difference, but I wouldn't have waited 20 years to buy my second guitar, as the first one was holding me back...

Mid 1970s I could have bought a late 1950s Gold Top LP for around $1,200. Had the guitar in my possession for about 4 days for a jam and recording session but I'd moved away from playing electric at that time and didn't buy it - big mistake.

I would hope if I had a chance to do it all over again with regard to music, I would have learned earlier that other peoples opinions, especially parents, are just that... opinions. Also that dreams and aspirations could (maybe should) be perused not just dismissed because of those arguably ignorant opinions.

Mine is a no brainer.

When I was still a teenager, one of my friends told me about this great guitar teacher in Berkley (I lived in the Bay Area then), and even gave me his number. I called him up, but he was a bit too much money for my blood.

I politely thanked this unknown teacher named Joe, and never called back. Imagine my surprise when "Surfing With The Alien" came out.

Yeah, I turned down lessons with Joe Satriani. STUPID STUPID STUPID

Man, that one hurt even thinking about how your foot looked that night Johnny.

Anyhow, mine is that I wasted 15 years with a guitar sitting in the closet, dealing with a wife (ex) that really had a knack for spending money. Finally picked it up again (and a few more) ;) but will never recover all that lost practice time. :(

I've had lots of musical regrets, but the biggest was selling off my collection of Gretsch's just before moving to Texas. Thought, heck, I got these at a good price, I'll just get more..
Duh... That is why I am now a collector, not a reseller.

I played the Viper in church today with the band. I wouldn't mind a do-over on a couple of songs.

And I wish I'd never sold my Amer. Standard Strat.

I was never in the area, but i would have liked to study with Ted Greene from a very early age.

The reason is, i have conversed with many of his students, they just didn't learn the guitar they learned music. I would really like to be able to arrange music, play with other folks, and be able to comp or improvise on anything being played.

Many of Ted's students attribute that ability to Ted's tutelage.

Taken up guitar at secondary school instead of wanting to be the Ausralian Herb Alpert.

It turned out they had enough trumpoet players so gave be a tuba as I had 'good strong lungs' I ended up doing a ripper version of Teddy bears Picnic

35 years later and it has probably been a change of life and I have finally taken it up LOL

tried of being yelled at by my father and trapped in camden nj, I applied to the american college of switzerland for my junior year of college, much to my amazement I was accepted.

I did not have the $$$ to go and I wrote them back. they gave me a FULL scholarship to attend their school. All I had to do was come up with the plane ride and a place to stay when they shut down the campus during the breaks. I went to everyone I knew to get the money for the ride and could not come up with it. with deep regrets I told them that I must decline.

I often wonder what may have happened if I attended that school. their student list read like a rooster of all the wealthy world families of the day. Maybe I could have fell in love with some rich bimbo and married her and lived happily ever after.

btw did I tell you I was deathly afraid to fly and did not fly until the late 90's?

Not my BIGGEST regret, but a constant source of frustration - I shouldn't have let my harp playing slip. One of the guys I used to jam with all those years ago is now living in France, playing the blues and doing very well, thank you.

25 years ago, he wasn't THAT much better than me, but he didn't stop.
