I am wondering what the best humidifer for my Elite should be? I dont know if I should go with a case or a dampit in guitar. I am new to the Ovation guitars.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Personal experience (from Phoenix, where the humidity is 5%) is that the DampIt doesn't work worth a shat. The Planet Wave that you inject with a syringe is good, but of course that only works on center soundhole guitars. Best thing to do would be to keep it in the case with one of those clay filled things (humidistat?). They are sized for string instruments - get the one for cello. I have also heard that some people just put an apple in their case, inside a paper bag. The apple gives off humidity (and a nice small) as it dries and rots. When it's pretty much all dried out just toss it and put in a fresh one. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Whatever you do, you'll need a hygrometer. Planet Waves makes one. In my limited research on the topic, the digital hygrometers are more accurate than the dial type. I like the old dial type though because they look cooler. I haven't purchased one yet, though, will soon because we'll have to turn the heat on before the first frost. This year I bought two really nice guitars and want to protect them. The guitars don't seem to have a problem with humidity in the summer in Brooklyn, plenty of humidity here.
Intersting note: my solid body tele, has never had a problem and it's my oldest guitar. Damn things a tank. But I suspect the acoustics are more susceptable to heat and humidity problems. |

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | Rather than trying to keep my guitars humid, I try for the entire house. We've found that if we keep the humidity at around 50% in the winter, we can reduce the number of colds and the hard wood floors don't creek as much. I bought a large humidifier at a garage sale for $25. It has a humidistat built in and during the heating season, we go through about 6 gallons/day. Of course in the summer, we take at least twice that amount out every day with de-humidifiers in the basement. All part of the joy of living in the midwest. |

Location: Vermont USA | Thanks everyone I was thinking of one for the case just wanted to be sure. I dont think I will try a fish tank in the case just dont seem natural.
