Location: NYC | Hi to all-
I bought a new Standard Elite LX NEB over the weekend, and couldn't be more pleased. I have a 1983 Legend 1117, which is a great guitar, but I needed something with a lower profile neck. My age is creeping up on me, and the old hands aren't as flexible as they used to be, so the V-shaped neck was getting a bit thick, especially above the 7th fret or so. Also, my 10 yr. old daughter is really getting into it, and I figured she deserved something better than the cheap import we started her with. Anyway, I intended to just browse, but the store had a Standard Elite LX, and it was perfectly set up, right off the rack. It played great and sounded great, acoustic and plugged in. I compared it to the 300 and 400 series Taylors, which I'd really been leaning towards because of their reputation for playbility, but the LX was superior in every way, including esthetics (the New England Burst finish is beautiful). You name it - tone, playability up and down the neck, finish, pre-amp - for us, there was no comparison. I ended up walking out with the Elite LX.

Location: Massachusetts | The NEB color is real nice, the Elite LX is very warm sounding almost woody which is nice. Build quality is excellent too. It was what less than $900 out the door and a new Taylor w/electronics is $1400.
Good guitar, good deal.
I don't think I liked the neck though. I do prefer the beefy oiled v neck of my s771 and hopefully my used Custom Legend coming in will have that same profile. | |
