Uses a microprocessor and a bunch of servo motors that'll retune your axe to an alternate tuning "on the fly" . . . |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | The store that PErformance recommends is very close to me and I have gone by and seen the "performance tuner" in action. They are very well installed, look pretty cool when properly added to the guitar and add about 8-10 ounces to the guitar.
They retune the guitar, depending on the tuning chosen, in about 1-2 seconds, so depending on the song (or break in the sound) you can effectively change tuning on the fly.
I believe that the tuning is accurate within 1-2% and when you change the tuning (say to drop D) the system will automatically compensate the tension on the remaining 5 strings.
All in all it is a pretty fantastice system. I thought seriously about getting one of them installed on my guitar until I heard the price!!!
They cost between $3500 and $4000 depending on the style of guitar.....definately not for the non professional noodler, like me.
Still.....it is an impressive device and it appears to work flawlessly!

Location: Yucaipa, California | ...I was thinking about one of these for my Banjo until I realized that "tuning a banjo" was an oxymoron and that the Automatic Tuner would probably go into fits and explode at the impossibility :D |

Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | the guitar i am building will alter the tuning with electronics in the time it takes to push a button. there will be nothing on the outside of the guitar except for a couple of extra switches to elude to the wolf in sheep's clothing. it uses a strat bridge.
i am trying to find a mini 2 axis component joystick to experiment with for controlling the midi parameters.
the fretboard will be divided if desired into as many as 12 different zones along string and fret lines. each zone can control a different patch. the pick zone can also be divided into 3 different zones, each also controlling different parameters.
i am shooting for having some of the preliminary testing done by the namm show. the first prototype will be made from inexpensive wood just to test the system. the idea is to have a minimum of audible sound from the guitar body, since actual tuning and an alternate virtual tuning will sound different. i have figured out a way to do this (in theory) and still maintain sustain for the single magnetic bridge pickup. |
