Hello everybody from sunny Arizona!! I just bought my first ovation, and I dont think I have ever been more excited about a guitar (and I have quite a few) Although I am looking for some enlightenment. There are 2 jacks in the body of the guitar, can anyone tell me the use for the second jack? And any other information you experts can tell me about my 1996 collectors series guitar. Thanks, Camelion

Welp, one of the jacks is a standard 1/4" out so you can go into an amp (unbalanced output). The other is an XLR so you can DI into the board or whatever (balanced). I think. :)

Welcome to the board and congrats on the purchase. I think you'll find it's a great bunch and we're all pretty crazy about our O's.

Camelion;

First of all: "Welcome"!!! (you'll like it here!)

Secondly, repeat after me: "XLR" . . .

sorry, but I'm at work right now, so I don't have the luxury of delving into this now, but I'm sure there are others here that'll jump onboard shortly, so just "hang on"

Out of curiosity:

". . what'dja BUY??? . . "

Camelion - the second - or XLR jack is the one I prefer to use directly into my PA (plug it into the microphone jack). I find the tone slightly fuller using the XLR then the standard 1/4".

Enjoy and welcome aboard..

I think your guitar has the HFX pre-amp, which is stereo. So I believe there should be two 1/4" jacks one for mono output and one for stereo. I don't think the XLR output was available until the Optima pre-amp. If yours does in fact have the XLR output, then you can use that one for balanced output direct to a board or mic pre-amp.

Dave;

Thanx for picking up on the '96 Collectors.
DUH!
(FWIW: I had a gig last night and got to bed at 5am, and the Account Exec. that I just met with here this morning just fed me two Bloody Mary's, so . . . )

Camelion, stick around . . . it get's better . . ..
