I just received my next project- an 1132 Matrix, with a serial # of 205022. Now, consult the listings. There's a jump from 203000 (1979) to 211011 (1980). So, is this critter a member of "The Lost Tribes Of Mooseup", or something?
It's actually in pretty good shape, with the first position frets still in relatively good shape. It needs a new rosette, so I'm gonna get real creative again with my mosaic constructions.
Anyrate, I'm curious about that jump in the serial numbers- was that the run of Matrix guitars for the end of the year, or something? I mean, do the math- that's 8011 units!
Break out your stats & dive into the archives, Guys- this is a conundrum.
Thanks!

What's even more curious is the 1132 Matrix was made 1975-1978. Not listed in 1979, at all. Oh well. It sounds pretty good, too. Those deep bowls and foam/aluminum necks are an interesting combination. A-bracing is in good repair, a few lacquer cracks, probably from age. Tuners are smooth still. Should be a nice player.

Must have been the 25th month of 1978.

Uh, thanks, Bill- that sounds plausible. I'm sure The Beancounters did some voodoo bookeeping somewhere.
BTW, glad to see your trek is complete, notwithstanding the meandering motorist, or two. Hey, enjoy the warmer climes!

OK, this will clear up the age thing. On the soundboard, under the aluminum fretboard extension, is an inked date of "APR 08 1980". Guess that settles it, huh?
I am posting a couple of pictures of the rosette. These are getting to be a bit addictive.

I forget why we stamped them, it was an inventory control thing as I recall.
