Location: Upper Left USA | I have been sanding away on this Viper Project for some time now. 90% of it is up to 600 grit finish and doing nicely - the troublesome area is inside the small radius of the treble horn.
Why are there horns, projections, semi-phallic extensions and such on solidbodies? Is it sound enhancement, artistic expression, copyright protection, marketing or tradition alone that drives the beast?
I am appreciating the BW/Deacon design more and more. |

Location: SoCal | I think a lot of the reason for horns on electric guitars is appearance. But in reading books on the Fender Strat, they say that the long horn on top, where the strap button is located, provides balance for the guitar when standing and using a strap. So it's purpose is functional as well as attractive. If you believe the book. |

Location: Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey | I find a horn necessary when playing an electric standing up. I found this out after building a flying V, then realizing I hated playing it. Without the horn resting against my torso, the guitar, I find, has a tendency to pivot left (and back right)making it a bit harder to play. I have to constantly "think" about the position of my left arm and also adjust my right hand to compensate the guitar angle for picking/strumming. The horn acts as a stop, preventing the guitar from pivoting all over, and keeps it in playing position. A V and explorer style bodies just aren't comfortable for me as much as I like the apprearance.

Location: 6 String Ranch | Wrap a layer of doublesided tape around the pole. It will hold the paper better, not necessarily to make it stick but just to keep it firm. That way you also keep it flat through out the whole cutaway area. |

Well, Ovation (Kaman Corp., whatever...) is a G.A.S. station of sorts...
