One of the many things they don't tell you in the booklet is that you can adjust the screen timeout. To conserve juice the display times out and the factory default is 20 seconds. To activate the display again just press any button or the joynub. Keep in mind that if you are in playback with a blanked screen you need to press 'stop' twice, once to activate the screen and once to actually stop. You get used to it.

In the Advanced menu you can adjust the timeout to 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds or 'always on'. I would suggest keeping it as short as possible for the following reason - when the display is lit there is a substantial amount of background noise. So as you're scrolling menus, etc. basically the 1/4 out sounds like a bad cell phone connection. As soon as you enter PLAY it all quiets down as the output circuit is obviously overridden by the mp3 file. Also if you wait until the screen blanks that will also cause the background noise to go away. It's got to be some cheap leaky circuitry between the display and other components. Keeping the display lit time as short as possible will help. Or if playing live I would use an add on volume pedal or mute switch to keep the audience from listening to the noise
