Location: Tennessee | Anyone out there have suggestions for strings for a Deacon 12? Seems like the choices out there are D'addarios (.010), Rickenbacker Compressed Round Wounds (.010), Pyramid Gold Flatwounds (.010), Dean Markleys (.008, .009, or .010), Ernie Ball (.008, .009, .011), GHS Boomers (.009, .010), La Bella - stainless steel flatwounds (.011) or round wounds (.010), or Rotosound pure Nickel(.009).
I know, ice cream. Just looking for a place to start. I can't find anything on factory recommendations. Right now it's strung with the D'Adds which seem OK, but I'm always up to try something new. I play Pyramid Golds on my Ric 12 which are a perfect match, but I don't know if roundwounds would be better with the humbuckers of the Deacon. Anyone ever use the Rotosounds? I know them for bass strings, but not electric 12.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | I have the D'Addarios on my Deacon 12 and I have Pyramids on my Ibanez Artist 12 / 6 Doubleneck.
I think the D'Addarios have a better chimey sound to them than the Pyramids.....although the Pyramids seem to last much longer before they start to sound dead (a big consideration when restringing a 12!!! but a 3x the price they should last forever). The Pyramids have a much higher tension than the D'Addarios so if you put them on the Deacon you might have to make a neck adjustment for relief.
I also have a set of Ernie Ball 12 string custome lights that I am going to put on a MusicVox 12-string this weekend. I plan to flip these over to the tradional Ric setup with the heavier string on top.
If you try some of the other sets, let me know how they work out.

Location: 6 String Ranch | I would tend toward a 10 set, a little more tension makes it sound better I think, a little more separation between strings. After that it's IC.
