Location: Munich | hi folks,
1.would you buy a gp re-issue if you've got the opportunity to or would you safe your money for an original one.
2.what colors would you prefer? black, honey sunburst, cherry sunburst, wine red, gold-top heritage cherry or else?
3. what kind of headstock would you prefer for a re-issue a broad gibby style or a slim ovation like?
I'm looking forward to the answers of this community. there's something grumbling down that mud.
p.s. gp users, do you know what case I can use with my gp? my old one broke unfortunately.

That's horrible. I've been lusting after a Steve Stevens since I found out he was the guitarist behind Shango (Juno Reactor). I know, won't make me play/sound like him, but...they're cool none the less (well, to me).
Say, Al, you wouldn't happen...nevermind. |

Location: Miami, FL | Hello,
I keep reading the posts on the GP and watch the prices these things are selling for. As someone who has never played one, I have to ask are they really worth it. I know the old saying if it is something you like, yes it is. But considering you can find some great deals on E-bay for the Hamers, I have to really ask whether the Hamers are just undervalued in the market place. I see what Gibsons, PRS's, and these GP's are fetching and then see top quality USA Hamers selling in the $600-$800 range. Am I safe in just assuming the marketing has distorted the value of a PRS vs a Hamer?
I am thinking up pickung one up at this point, perhaps a USA studio.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | You really can't compare a GP and a Hamer. The GP had/has an it factor for some reason. I had a couple and they really are nice guitars, but... if I needed a guitar and had the kind of money a GP is going for, I would CERTAINLY just buy a Hamer. It's a much much better guitar, but there really isn't any comparison in how they are built. If Hamer released a GP style guitar, then all the better. It would be better built, last longer, be brand new, and at the current rate, probably not cost much more or maybe even less than some of the GP's have been going for.
Having seen so many guitars in person from around the world at NAMM, I really don't understand why Hamer USA isn't MUCH bigger than they are. Guitars of similar build quality and technique go for nearly twice the cost of a Hamer or more and it's not like these other guitars are household names either.
Having said all this, we are back to the "it" factor. I don't think the GP could be reproduced. I think the biggest draw it has is that amounst many similar guitars, the Ovation headstock gives it a look unlike anything else. There are many of that style guitar out there, but that headstock sais something, and just looks like it's what should be on that style guitar. |

Actually I have been toying with the idea of building my own "reissue" GP, but I should probably get a house with a workshop first. And finish all my hundreds of other damn projects. |

Location: Oregon USA | That's fair; it remains one of the prettiest guitars I've ever seen. The fact that one of my favorite players uses one just happened to be what drew my attention to it.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I guess most people don't realize you can get a custom built guitar from certain luthiers that will build anything, for nearly the same price (in some cases less) than the GP's go for on eBay. I have thought of getting one built as a neck-thru instead of set-neck, or maybe use a Deacon neck and do a set-neck. |

Location: Munich | no, surely the les paul design is also very classical and ,depending to the color and binding, beautiful. but to say the gp is just a LP with a bass horn is like comparing a fort gt 40 with a volkswagen beetle.
I think loving the gp is like loving the concorde. the shape of the body and the ratio from headstock to neck to body. surely there are better sounding pu's but I also love the sound of the dimarzio dp104 super2's also the schaller 455 bridge is something that makes the difference to other guitars.
well nevertheless, michael wrote me that the re-issue will get a kind of badass bridge, standard 1 layer binding ( instead of the 6 layer binding of the original) and a small headstock. I don't know what kind of pu's he selected. oh, and it'll be korean made. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I designed it, it's a LP knockoff with a bass horn that has the same conceptual shape as the treble horn. A blended heel ala BC Rich, an Ovation peghead and the UK2/Preecher Deluxe fingerboard.
All the other magic it has accumulated over the years on its own. |

I'm gonna have to have Neal whip one up for me. |

hey, it's not me who re-issues the GP, it's eastwoodguitars. Michael Robertson just sent me a few pics of a GP, I think it were pics of tomcatt99's black one, and I answered him a few questions.
I can't see anything wrong about givin' some guitarists the opportunity to buy a new and cheap copy. What should Gibson say then when every other brand has a copy of it's famous single cutaway in it's program? |
