I caught the last half of a documentary on the Sundance Channel this week called "Tom Dowd: The Language of Music".

I thoroughly recommend this to everyone whether you have heard of the legendary record producer or not. Chances are that if you look at some of your all time favorite records, his name will be on it.

He produced Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many others for over a fifty year period.

This documentary is really a gem.

I saw it on the sundance channel last week. For those of us who remember the greats he produced, it was a great insight. I dug the the bit about recording the Alman Brothers. It made me dig out my "Live at the Filmore East". I was fortunate enough to see that young guitarist Joe Bonamassa perform last summer, shown recording, at the begining of the documentry. That guy is a super guitarist, in the mode of Hendrix, Beck and Page. I don't know if Tom Dowd died before he finished producing his recordings.
