Location: Yucaipa, California | I have been using a National thumb pick for years and have been quite content. I recently read a review (on a banjo chat site... gasp) singing the praises of the ProPik thumb pick with the Delrin tip. I ordered one from Janet Davis Music and used it for the first time last night. WOWIE ZOWIE WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Balladeer S771 woke up and growled! I had no idea just changing a thumb pick could make such a dramatic and GREAT difference!
Try one and see if you experience the same thing.
Here's the link to JDMC where I bought mine: (scroll down to the ProPik with the Delrin tip)
Thumb Picks
I'm so impressed with them that I'm going to order several more just to "stock up". |

Thanks for the link! I've been wanting to try one of these, but havn't seen any in the local shops  Playing electrics 90% of the time, I've never been comfortable using Nationals, for 20 years I've been using the blue nylon jobbies that aren't around anymore (forget who made em).
I bought about a zillion of em years back :) Friend of mine that I used to play Atkins stuff with E-mailed me about them a month or so ago, I couldn't find them locally (he's in AR).
Very Cool! |

I am still amazed in the difference in tone/voulme/voicings that little change made! I actually had to adjust the "attack" from my thumb to not play too loudly! Very cool!
I can't wait to get home tonight and try it on my (gasp) banjo! |

Looks like a good idea, the Speedpik also looks interesting. Less surface may give me a cleaner sound. I tend to drag my thumb a bit on the banjo - and as unique as that sound is, it's not one that I like to call my own!!!

Location: Minnesota | I've got acouple of the speedpicks around that I tried for a while. The tip was just a bit to flexible for me, and I filed a little off the length which helped somewhat. Not a bad pick, I use them occasionally when playing my nylon string for some stuff.
My motto is find what you like and run with it :D |
