There used to be this band in Canberra that played at the Australian National University bar every Friday night. I think they were called Midnight Oil.

Florida Band - The Groovemonsters, featuring the late great Big Dave Fiester. Killer band! Dave was one of the best slide players I ever heard.

Couple of decades earlier, Dave was in another great Central Florida band called Tight Shoes.

Larry Mace. He had a rockin' country band in west Texas (Midland/Odessa area) in the mid '80's. They really had it going until personalities wrecked things. I spent many evenings at the old Texas Tumbleweed listening to them.

Larry's 15 yr old daughter would sing with them and did a decent job. It looks like the two of them are now doing an easy listening worship music thing.

Indy, 70's: Faith Band, Roadmaster, Light. The singer from The Faith Band is the one who actually wrote the song "Dancin' Shoes" that Nigel Olson(sp?) made a hit out of. What a great band. The keyboard/sax player(John Cascella) went on to play with John Mellancamp until his untimely death. A truely super talent and very nice person. Roadmaster put out a very good album(IMO),"Sweet Music",that should have done a lot better. I believe it was just a lack of good promotion. Their bass player (Toby Myers) also went on to play with JMC. Light was a band that sounded a lot like Alan Parsons. Put out 1 album (Keys) that went, well, nowhere. They were a great cover band , though.

Blotto was GREAT. I was about 19 and dating the daughter of a show promoter who was putting on an outdoor show in Clayton, NY. I weaseled my way into being stage "security". Blotto and Dakota headlined and they were INCREDIBLE! Both of those bands should have made it big as well as another CNY group - 805.

Fever Tree
Josefus
Moving Sidewalks
Bubble Puppy
The Electromagnets
13th Floor Elevators

All great Texas bands that eventually spawned big time groups such as ZZ Top, Eric Johnson, etc.

Al and I talked about this quite a bit while lunching at the Hyatt last month.

by the way Al....if I didn't say it then, Thanks for lunch!!!!

Sweeney Todd , when Nick Gilder moved to LA to sell his songs into a bigger market, they hired a pimply little kid named Bryan Guy Adams. (I think he changed/shortened his name or something later.)

Pointed Sticks

Spring. Their only recorded release was a 45, A Country Boy Named Willie. Other than that, they were just Tom Northcotts backup band.

Sadly, "Scarlet Lace". Something to do with a boy, who is Satan's understudy for sure. Hopefully time will heal these wounds and the girls will get back together.

Strangely, they are getting ever more plays, and have many requests for CDs and iTunes downloads.

oops!
The Bubble Puppy was the first concert I ever saw. I agree, a great band. Way ahead of their time. Their music unfortunately was probably over most people's head.

"Hot Smoke and Sassafras" still gets airtime once in a great while but no one every know who they are.

The guitar "sounds" of some of the early Texas bands were truly remarkable.

Brain Damage

Hippy bands all, you could 'airplane dance' all night, although Perth County traveled with their own dancers, jugglers, and mimes....

Challengers, although they were well-known in Southern California, they never hit the big time like the Ventures.
