How many here keep a guitar tuned down a step from concert pitch? I play a couple songs where it makes the difference for the vocals. I just wonder how widespread it is.

All the more reason for O to make more Longneck versions!

Waiting on the Adamas I Baritone 12 string issue with the Pair-o-ballistic bowl, ANS neck and a Slothead!

and waiting...

It is pretty widespread, although I've never done it.
I've got a fairly "wide swing" as far as vocal range goes, so I've always pretty much always kept my guitar at A440. There are a lot of people though that tune to Eb.

There's another acoustic duo that pretty much plays the same circuit of venues that we do, and the singer/guitarist tunes to Eb . . .

. . . . but he's pretty much a "hack".

( . . boy, am I gonna catch shit for this! . . )

Well, I just thought I'd beat AL to saying it.

In several bands in which I was a member, we always tuned a half step lower. Once had a lead player who didn't care to do that cos he thought the intonation of his guitar suffered. But for us whose vocal range is borderline, it seemed to help.

It is surprising how just that one step can make a song singable (for me anyway).

I don't bother. I subscribe to the Yoko Ono method of vocal interpretation.

I bought a DS768 longneck specifically for that purpose. Man it really booms out and fills a room. I also have one of my electrics tuned down a full step to compliment the longneck but all the others are either A440 or alternate tuned.

Uh, Cliff...

Do the letters "F.O." mean anything to you?

..keep my 1767 tuned to D, and have a session coming up where I will tune to C#, capo the second fret and play in Eflat (with E chords) for a song where that pitch is best...

I just tune it to the key of C and keep it simple. Some songs I sing good and others I suck at because it is out of my limited octave range. I suffer from Ricky Nelson disease when it comes to singing. However, I have no desires to free-baste cocaine in the back of a sixty year old

I'm not ashamed to say that I tune one guitar to D so that I can sing some Jimmy Webb (read Glen Campbell)tunes more comfortably. On the other side of the coin with concert 440, I have transposed several tunes to C chords and use a capo just to keep that clear open string sound that Ovation guitars champion. (IMHO) For old standards and Jazz you can't beat the Ovation for playing Maj7's, Maj an m7th's ,9th's...what was the question? Scooby...Dooby...Dooo...zzzzz.

It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.
