Took the koala out for its first walkabout last night.

It took a little getting used to.
The neck is noticeably skinnier than my CustBalladeer. Doing guick chord changes on something OTHER than the six-string neck that you've been playing 'em on almost EVERY weekend for at LEAST the past 7 years(and then 25 more before that) took a lil' bit of doing. At the very beginning, I had a tendency to "over-finger" the 1st & 6th string t'where they slid off the fretwire. It'll just take a bit of getting used to. By the 2nd set, I was fine. Developed a bit of a sore neck/shoulders by the end of the night from standing for four hours holding a guitar in a position that I'm not used to (contour bowl).
That too, shall pass.
Still it looked/sounded GREAT! Got a LOT of compliments on it.
I'm somewhat "on the fence" regarding the VIP.
I need to just "play" with it more.
I think due the fact that it's "new"(t'me), I may tend t'wanna' USE it (t'the point to where I may OVERuse it . . . know whatta' Mean, Vern?).
I think I need to first concentrate on getting the "optimal" sound that I want from the straight piezo, & then just "stir-in" a scotsche of the VIP.
I tend t'be a bit over-self-critical at gigs & tend t'think that certain things're "not quite right" . . . Jeanette (& a lotta' other people) thought that it sounded "great" . . .
I'm finding myself gravitating toward the sound of Image "3" (whichever that one is).
Where IS the explanation of what those "images" ARE?? Are they on Dave's site? I think ProfBB (or somebody) listed 'em here a while back, but I never made record of it (didn't NEED to, till now). If somebody could steer me to where they are, I'd appreciate it.
Next gig is in two weeks, as I'm playing the cocktail hour at Jeanette's company XmasParty.
That'll be quieter & I'll be able to concentrate more on "tone" (than being "heard" over a drunk cattle-drive). Also gives me some time to "experiment" with the VIP settings before-hand . . .) |

actually, there's a nice "naughty girl" shot there of my mic stand, there.
That's a Herc double guitar stand with a mic boom grafted to the top. y'just have to make sure that one of the three legs is diametricaly-opposed to the boom. I then drape a photographer's sandbag on top of that leg as a counter-weight to the boom. Steady as a Rock. It'll stand steadily without it (I've done it), but the bag makes it (somewhat)DrunkProof. |

Anyway, the bowl gets easier, I even am liking it as much as the deep bowls these days. I had the aches too, but it affected my forearms and wrists more than anything.
Much better now though.
Man, I'm envious. I've already been eyeing my group to see what has to go for me to get one! I swear I've seen beads of sweat running down a couple necks.
The calendar did nothing to quench my thirst for an 08C either. |

Much better now though. I mostly play sitting, but after adjusting my strap length and learning-by-doing, I am finally getting used to standing with my contour bowls.
I kinda miss being able to look down at the top of the guitar tho'...
I am getting the feeling that the contour bowl is really the "Shape of things to come" so I better get used to it. |

Actually, the guitar stand/boom is off to the side.
The camera angle at which Jeanette took this makes it more prominent.
I'm usually more concerned with form/functionality at gigs than "appearances" . . . |
